O Romeo, Romeo!

Juliet

"O Romeo, Romeo! wherefore art thou Romeo?Deny thy father and refuse thy name.Or if thou wilt not, be but sworn my love And I'll no longer be a Capulet."

- William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet

Friar Laurence’s

Romeo

As if that name,
Shot from the deadly level of a gun,
Did murder her; as that name's cursed hand
Murder'd her kinsman. O, tell me, friar, tell me,
In what vile part of this anatomy
Doth my name lodge? tell me, that I may sack
The hateful mansion.

- William Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet

Capulet’s orchard

Capulet's orchard

Wilt thou be gone? it is not yet near day:
It was the nightingale, and not the lark,
That pierced the fearful hollow of thine ear;
Nightly she sings on yon pomegranate-tree:
Believe me, love, it was the nightingale.

Three Performances Over Three Nights in Drake Park This Summer August 23rd, 24th & 25th

William Shakespeare. His name is synonymous with the greatest plays ever written. Lay It Out Events brings the Bard back to Bend for three brilliant performances of one of his most beloved tragedies — Romeo and Juliet. This beloved play of star-crossed lovers who’s young passion runs counter to their families will transform Drake Park to the streets of Old Verona,Italy.

In its second year, Shakespeare in the Park is following on the heels of last year’s tremendous production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Lay It Out Events, local theater company CatCall Productions and Portland’s Northwest Classical Theatre Company will partner again to bring this romantic classic to Bend.

As with all our events, Shakespeare in the Park donates a portion of the event to a local non-profit. Our charitable beneficiary this year is again Arts Central, the regional Arts Council of Central Oregon. Last year, Shakespeare in the Park donated $5,000 to support Arts Central’s Cultural Advocacy Partnership initiative.
